Thanks, Son

Isaac gave me his GI bug. It didn't hit him too hard and he's fine now, but it wiped me out. I'll spare you the details. Mercifully the worse part was over quickly.

In other monkey news -

  • He's rising into a stand more and more often. He never stays up for very long, but he's working on it. Occasionally he manages to go from squatting to standing and back to squatting in a controlled fashion.

  • Chase is a fun game.

  • He's quite happy to shuffle around with one hand on some fixed (or not so fixed) item for balance while using the other to grab everything in sight.

  • His first adult-recognizable vocalization was a meow at one of the cats. He's learning how to pet them and play with them. Sometimes they make him giggle and gigle and giggle.

  • Baby hat -- a game where I lay him upon my head and walk around -- continues to amuse mom, baby and dad.

  • He makes a "ma-ma-ma-ma" sound when upset. We're 95% sure he's asking for Kim.

  • Mom is better than dad when baby is upset.

  • Playing with dad is often more fun than playing with mom.

  • Bam! Bam bam! Everything is a nail to Isaac lately.

  • Except those things which can be dropped or thrown. Everything is a ball to Isaac.

  • Dropping and throwing things makes him laugh. Sometimes hysterically.

  • His other vocalizations have become suddenly English-like. They are not English words to the best of my knowledge, but they could be. (It reminds of Mel Brooks' nonsense talking.)

  • He's starting to get the hang of holding his breath under water.

  • He is (still) made of awesome.

I highly recommend Baby Signing Times. It's great for babies who's vocal cord muscles haven't developed enough for speech yet, but their brains are perfectly capable of processing language. Our daughter was able to understand and do about 15 of the signs at 11 months.

We do sign to him. Well, my wife signs to him -- mostly around eating.
But so far, nothing ...

I have this suspicion he's not going to say anthing for a fe months and then, suddenly, fully-formed sentences are going to come out. :-)

Don't give up. Keep at it.

Our daughter had a break-through week. It was a full month after we first started showing her signs, before she started doing them. Then, boom, all of the sudden she's doing everything.

I'm glad you're enjoying my all Isaac, all the time blog. Really, i should do something about that.

Yeah, I did see that Rush may be leaving. He didn't get an agent, so he has an option to return, but I'm guessing he's gone.
