There's a quote from somebody middlingly famous that I forget. I also forget the quote's exact words. But the gist of it is, "People become conservative after they have something to conserve."
For me personally I can only say I abhore ideologues on either side and I didn't understand the great hue and cry over Geraldine Ferraro's recent electoral remarks: what she says about Obama is patently true. Of course it's also true that Hillary Clinton wouldn't be where she is if she weren't woman.
re: ferraro, i suspect the fury is that people are uncomfortable about what that might say about, let's by charitable, their fellow americans.
And this is certainly true.
i'm unsurprised that his come-to-jesus moment vis a vis conservatism is compelling.
i'd bet he could write the opposite story and, while i'd find it an unsatisfactory conclusion, i would find it compelling. unlike many author's, he's got my number.
